David L. Nichols

Small business owner, adjunct marketing professor, and the guy who wrote the book on doing real marketing in fifteen minutes a day.

The Short Version

David Nichols owns and operates two small businesses in Upstate South Carolina — Palmetto Lawn & Pest, a lawn care and pest control company, and 864 Vending Services, a vending machine route business. He also teaches marketing, sales, and business communication part-time at North Greenville University. He lives in Taylors, SC, with his wife and two kids — and, most evenings, a raccoon named Randall who shows up uninvited and stays anyway.

Background

David's path to writing a marketing book didn't start in marketing at all — it started in broadcasting. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Radio/TV and a Master's degree in Broadcast Management from Bob Jones University.

He later worked in sales engineering and corporate training at Windstream, and has spent close to two decades teaching marketing, sales, and business communication at the college level — work that runs in parallel with, and constantly informs, the two businesses he owns today.

David had a stutter, significant enough in his college years that it nearly put his broadcasting degree at risk, and worked through speech therapy to get comfortable enough on camera to finish that degree. He's also an Amateur Extra Class licensed ham radio operator — about as far from "extroverted marketing guru" as a hobby gets, which is more or less the whole point of the book he ended up writing.

The Businesses

Everything in Constitutional Marketing comes directly from running these two companies — not theory, not a case study borrowed from somewhere else.

Teaching

David has teaches marketing, sales, and business communication part-time at North Greenville University. He's quick to admit he's better at the practical side than the academic theory — a tension that became the entire premise for Constitutional Marketing, which closes every chapter with a short "Professor's Note" tying the real-world story back to something worth remembering.

Constitutional Marketing pulls together everything David's learned running two small businesses and teaching marketing for two decades — twenty-three chapters, each built around an idea you can use in fifteen minutes.
